Hey guys! So here goes my first entry. I wanted to start a blog for a long time now and i'm glad i did cause I have LOTS to tell you.
Aaaaannddd the first one on the list is about ASASI SAINS UMS! Back when before i was officially a foundation student, the lack of information about AUMS (that's the acronym on Asasi Sains UMS) baffled me lmao. I was honestly lost and I'm sure you are too. So here are a few random stuff that i want to tell you and hopefully it'll help
What happens after our foundation studies?
It's compulsory to continue your degrees @ UMS after you finish your foundation studies here. YES. COMPULSORY. Once you get your final pointer after you finish all semesters, say bye bye to UPU (which means that you can't apply to other public universities) and hello to SMP. SMP is the short form of Sistem Maklumat Pelajar and this is where you apply for degrees courses that you want in UMS. But of course you can continue your degrees at private universities if you got money.
Actually, this applies to all foundations in public universities except for UITM and UM.
However this could also be a good thing since foundations students are given priorities. This means that the chances of you getting accepted into the degree course that you applied for in UMS is much higher compared to the matriculation and SPM kids. You're pretty much accepted if your pointer is enough.
Orientation Week
We call it Minggu Suai Mesra.
Don't worry, there will be no running around, no "Malam Kebudayaan" and all those cliche things that we always do for high school orientation weeks lmao. It's pretty laid back actually. Just a bunch of talks presented by our lecturers about dressing codes, subjects, safety, bla bla bla and all that with a few mini games/activities in group in between talks. The seniors from the previous batch will be assisting you throughout the orientation week. which means that yall 7th batch kids will have us for your facilitators ayyyyye. We'll be nice, don't worry.
oh and you'll also get free food throughout the orientation week.
Schedule
So basically it's;
Lecture - 8 to 10 AM
Tutorial - 10.30 to 11.30 AM
Lab - 2 to 5 PM
EVERYDAY (except Friday lol)
yep. from mornin 'till evenin y'all. Asasi is exhausting, i'll give you that. They'll teach a chapter a week for each subject during morning lectures. If you have struggles to adapt to the new learning environment, it's okay, it's totally normal. I had it too and i only managed to overcome it in the middle of Semester 2.You'll be okay in the end, don't worry.
Dorm
ahhhhh good 'ol UMS dorms. Our batch are really lucky 'cause we were placed in Kampung AB (student's residence inside of UMS). The previous batch were scattered around. some were living outside of UMS and some were inside.
The facilities here are very good. Each of you will get a table, a bed and a locker. The locker is big and more than enough. The furniture is quite new actually. There will be rooms for 2 person and rooms for 4 person and I advice you to take the rooms for 4 person. It's spacious and the more roommates, the better. And choose the rooms on the top floor or second floor for good ventilation.
Toilets? more than enough. 2 shower rooms and 3 toilets on each floor. and there's also a room provided for you to do your laundry (nope, there's no washing machine in the laundry room) and wash your dishes.
And yes there's WiFi provided on each floor.The WIFI router is placed directly in front of my room and the connection is pretty good.

Books
It's not necessary for you to buy books before the registration 'cause it'll be provided later anyway. Aaaaannd 100% of my 1st semester elaun (RM500) were gone to pay for my books lmao. I didn't even use my books that much 'cause I depend more on lecture notes and online lectures /sigh.
Semesters
there's 3 semesters, 1 semester = 4 months
we started Asasi @ 24th May 2015 and we'll be done @ 13th May 2016 so that's roughly a year i guess.
